Great Camera For Recreational Photography 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

If you are looking for a good, basic digital camera, this one is great. It's got enough features to do everything you want from a personal use camera (not professional level).

I bought this camera for my mother. I bought myself the Cannon SureShot, because I got lured in by the extra features. After they both came in and I used my mom's camera, I wished I had bought the Sony instead of the Cannon.

This camera is easy to use. The dials/menus are easy to use. Just a few minutes of "playing around with it" is enough to figure out the basic functions. A good solid camera. Nice pictures.

the product is good , except that make is not good 4 out of 5 stars.

I liked mine so well I got a second one as a spare. Digital cameras are a new thing for me. I got mine 3 days before a trip. It is a nice small size and easy to use. The viewing screen is large enough to provide a great picture. The control dial, selection button and menu are easily accessably by thumb as well as the playback & delete buttons. It provides an audible & visual alert when the still picture is in focus. It does movies with audio and has many other features not mentioned here. It uses two AA batteries (reg. or rechargeable), & I liked this feature when overseas. A very nice all around friendly camera to use.

Editorial Review:

The 7.2-Megapixel Cyber-shot(R) W120 features innovative Smile Shutter technology, which photographs smiles as they happen. A Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens provides high quality close-ups, while Sony's Double Anti-Blur solution gives you crisp, clear images. The advanced Sony Super HAD(TM) (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. Because an off-center subject can make your shot more interesting, a 9-point auto focus measures the focus at 9 precision points instead of 5 giving you greater creative freedom to compose your image. The large, bright 2.5" TFT LCD display makes it easy to compose shots, check results, and read menus in sharp natural color, even in bright sunlight. Face Detection technology automatically controls focus, exposure, color, and flash to help reveal faces in shadows, make skin tones look more natural, reduce red-eye, and eliminate harsh facial glare, so your photos bring out every expression on every face in every shot. Super SteadyShot(R) Image Stabilization compensates for shaky hands and minimizes blur with optical sensors that detect camera movement and send correcting signals to a stabilization lens. Aperture Range - Auto (F2.8-F14 with ND Filter) / Program Auto (F2.8-F14 with ND Filter) Shutter Speed - Auto (1/4 - 1/1,600) / Program Auto (1 - 1/1,600) Flash Modes - Auto, Forced On, Forced Off, and Slow Synch Movie Modes - MPEG VX Fine with Audio (640x480 at 30fps), MPEG VX Standard with Audio (640x480 at 16fps), Presentation (320 x 240 at 8fps) Scene Modes - Auto, Easy Shooting, Program Auto, Movie, High Sensitivity, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, and Smile Shutter Operating System - Microsoft 2000 Professional, Me, XP Home and Professional, Macintosh OS 9.1, 9.2, OS X (10.0-10.4)

I'm quite fond of the Sony megazoom series of cameras, and I recently upgraded from a Sony DSC-H1 to DSC-H50. I was actually still quite happy with the H1, more than 3 years after buying it, but a couple of features on the H50 made me invest in the new model:

* The camera can be operated through a remote control. In addition to self-portraits, this is good for leaving your camera somewhere on its own, pointing to a place you think an interesting animal, insect or something will appear, and then shoot. It's difficult to get close to animals and insects in person sometimes.

* The camera has a screen on the back that can be tilted at various angles, making it good for taking photos from high above your head and conveniently also from ground level. I find this option often makes for creative photography!

Just a quick note on the "smile detector". It works beyond belief! I'm not sure how useful it actually is, but it's amazing how quickly the camera responds when the smile appears.

On the minus side, I would have preferred to be able to continue using normal AA batteries, like in the H1. While the proprietary Sony battery for this camera has impressive endurance, it is also expensive...

Another negative, although it may be that I just haven't learnt to operate the camera properly yet, is that until now I find that my macro photos when I go EXTREMELY close actually turns out better/more detailed/cleaner on the H1 than with the H50. It's still good, though.

I remain satisfied with the Sony megazoom cameras!

Spend more time learning about your cameras... 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

To those that are blaming the lack of sharpness on lens quality... I think the lens is phenomenal considering the size of the sensor.

I myself personally own a canon 700 IS, and this camera as well. I have spent ample time framing the same shot with both cameras and changing settings on both cameras.

In my opinion the sony IS capable of creating very sharp pictures superior in both color saturation and exposure then the canon series. It just isn't as obvious to do it as the canon as the canons don't offer near the amount of manual options that the sony offers. They pretty much lock the consumer into making good pictures and the consumers think they're the greatest.

That said, even a digital SLR can take very poor/soft pictures if you don't focus correctly. Spot, scene, average focusing can cause lots of problems with sharpness.

To make the sony perform as a Canon series camera would, place the camera into the auto mode, enable the iSCN option (not iSCN+). No muss no fuss sharp pictures just like Canons with in my opinion more vivid pictures and realistic colors. At least compared to my canon 700IS.

Either way, both cameras are great, both cameras have their shortcomings as they are compact cameras, but every digital camera is capable of taking great pictures. Just have to spend more time learning about it and trying to get the best performance out of them.

Best Camera for Realtors and Appraisers 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I am a realtor who has spent nearly 5 weeks testing cameras to use that can fit rooms into one shot. I have 4 sony cameras. H3 W70 p10 and the touch screen N1 which is my personal favorite. I am a sony guy, but I needed a 28mm wide angle camera. I tried the Panasonic tz5 and the Panasonic fx35 which is a 25mm wide camera but has no zoom. I went to Best Buy to buy the Tz5 for 350.00. I told the salesgirl that I wish Sony made a wide angle camera and she said "they do!" My descion was that I would try it since I already had 2 extra BG-1 batterys (which work for all the new sony's) and memory sticks so I saved on the extras. I bought the W170 on the spot went home and took some photos of a couple of rooms at my home. WOW!!! I can tell you right now that this will replace my N1 and my H3. Too bad it does not have the touch screen like the N1 but, the 1st 40 pictures printed so nice that I am willing to wait until Sony builds me a wide angle camera with a touch screen.

With Sony's Face Detection technology, the DSC-S750 detects up to three faces and optimizes focus and exposure for accurate, natural photos of family and friends. And a 5-point auto focus is ideal or off-center subjects. Then, compose your shots on the large, 2.5? LCD screen. I purchased this as a special gift for a dear friend who was more than delighted with its ease of use and great pictures this point and shoot had to offer.

Sony Cybershot DSCW120 5 out of 5 stars.

I've had the camera for a few weeks and am having fun learning about the many features. The two most helpful to me are the Super Steady Shot and the large view screen. It is very compact and well-made. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

Great Camera! 5 out of 5 stars.

Before purchasing the Sony Cybershot DSCW120 I owned a Fujifilm digital camera. The camera was all around a good camera, but the pictures weren't as clear as I wanted them and it was a little bulky. Then I lost the battery and really wasn't sure if i wanted to spend the money to purchase a new one.
Then last week, I went onto Amazon and looked at camera's and got interested in buying a new Camera. Since I wanted something light, small, preferably black, takes clear pictures, and good reviews, I came across this Sony Cybershot. After reading all the review (which im a first review, then buy person) I was Sold. The next day I went to Circuit City and purchased the Camera, a case, screen protector, and of the course the $30 dollar memory card.
I took it home, turned it on and just started snapping pictures. The pictures were clear as day, even in low lighting areas. I tried using the Face Smile setting, which was a little confusing in the beginning, but after playing around, was actually really cool.
Another thing that I love is that when slidding the wheel, like when going to auto, face smile, video, etc, tells you what each setting is.
Example: When turing the wheel to Twilight is says "shoot low light scene using tripod". I think this is an awesome setting when turning the wheel and not really know what your turning to and have to either play around or resorting to the manual.
Overall I think this is an awesome camera thats light, a pocket size, and shoots crisp clear pictures. For the 200 dollars I spent, I cannot be happier.
