This is our second Canon Powershot. The SX1 IS was terrific and after 25,000 saved images, the focusing gears were literally griding. (The time spent taking photos in a desert sandstorm may have contributed!) The SX10 IS is terrific because--it has low shutter lag time, excellent face recognition focusing, is solidly built and fits the hand well, 20X zoom, very effective image stabilization that allows frequent use of the long zoom in surprisingly low light, has 10 megapixel resolution and uses normal AAA batteries, We always use rechargables and get several hundred photos (without flash usage) between recharging. The swivel screen is a major aid in taking closeups of flowers, insects and small children. With 7 grandchildren and living in the beautiful Northwest, it rarely cools off!

Shipping---absolutely the worst!!! I ordered this item (from Amazon) on 6-19-09 and to date (6-30-09) I have still have NOT received the camera!!! This is totally unacceptable!!

I purchased this camera after a great amount of research. It was my fourth digital camera purchase from Canon. I tested it immediately upon receipt and really liked the controls, zoom, and image quality. One month after receipt I took it on a trip to American Samoa and a number of other Pacific islands. The interior lens surfaces fogged extensively after it's first exposure to outside tropical air. I understand the proper procedures for moving a camera from an air-conditioned room to a hot, humid environment and I thought I had warmed the camera adequately before taking it outside. (I live in S. Florida) I could not get the lenses to clear no matter what I tried.
When I got back home, (after being unable to take any usable photographs on my trip) I sent the camera back to Canon. I was told I had water damaged the camera and that it was not repairable and it was not covered under warranty. I spoke to 3 separate people at their service center and was treated rather rudely. After my experience with Canon's customer "Service" department, this will be my last purchase from Canon. I am in the process of shopping for a new DSLR, I will probably go Nikon instead.
Long story short, I managed to take about 20 good test shots of my back yard and living room, my once in a lifetime trip to the South Pacific however, totally photo free. Thanks for nothing Canon.

Purchased this product (Canon PowerShot SD880IS 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom) after seeing a friends during a recent cruise.
Previously owned a Sony Cyber-shot 3.2mp - it was an old trusty camera but had a small screen 1.25 X 0.875 and the Canon was much larger.
The cannon has more (and very interesting) features than I will ever use and takes superb pictures - portraits, machinery, indoors and out, close ups (including digital closeup), color transfer, etc.
There are other upper end Canon models but the screen is smaller and the size is slightly larger with even more features.
This one is highly recommended and easy to use.
Be sure to shop for a 4 or 8gb SD Memory card so you can take and store 2,000 + pictures on the camera. The 32mb card with the camera is too small. I also purchased a USB 2.0 SD/SDHC/MMC Card Reader / Writer by HDE for around $[...] which worked great for me (although there were bad reviews - how wrong can you go for [...] bucks - purchase it new)

The camera is very intuitive to use. There are a lot of new features that were not on my old camera. I especially like the slide show feature. I bought the 8GB card and it gives me over 4000 pictures. That is a big change over my last camera.

Excellent picture quality and level of detail. The 10 Megapixel capability is well correlated with lens performance and does make a difference in pictures of large groups. Great movie clips quality too. I was a bit uneasy initially about the battery life but, using the viewfinder as primary means for framing, they last for about 250 pictures. I wish the optical zoom was more powerful - that's why the rating penalty. Otherwise, great!
