Not good for videos 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I got this camera for mostly one reason. Posting videos on Youtube. Although this camera is not good for videos. You have to buy a 8gb memory card just to hold around ten minutes of video. Which costs a lot of money. Plus the picture on the video is horrible. you have to stay completely still just to make out faces. The pictures are also blurry. If you want to use a camera for videos more then pictures then get the Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1MP Digital Elph.

Editorial Review:

Canon's iconic ELPH design achieves a stunning new evolution with the PowerShot SD750 Digital ELPH. Utterly simple edge lines and cut surfaces gleam subtly with high-grade finishes. Of course, style means little without substance, and here the SD750 Digital ELPH more than delivers. 7.1 megapixels and DIGIC III create magnificent images, while exciting advanced technologies include Face Detection, Red-eye Correction, and time-lapse movies. Always sized to go, the SD750 Digital ELPH is now extra-durable, with a tough scratch-resistant coating on its anti-reflective, brilliantly colorful 3.0-inch LCD screen.

Great Camera! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I really like this camera. It is easy to use, takes great pictures, and has plenty of zoom. I looked at so many cameras before purchasing this one. This one had the best features and quality of all the cameras in this price range. I was really impressed with the quality of the video it produced, as I didn't expect very much from a digital camera.

I am glad I got a camera with a view finder as I have found on very sunny days at the ballfield, the LCD can be a little difficult to see details of what you are capturing. The viewfinder, though, shows you enough of what you are shooting and comes in handy.

The night scene mode really is a blessing as I have taken night shots with and without this mode, and it makes such a huge difference in night photography.

Speed is not an issue as well. I took a picture of my son jumping into the pool and I caught him just as he was entering the water. There was relatively no blur and it looks as if he is standing on top of the water!
I also took pictures of him throwing a baseball and there was no blur in those photos as well.

Again, this camera exceeded my expectations and I doubt that anyone would be disappointed in purchasing this camera. Plus it's hard to go wrong with Canon's quality.

fine prints 4 out of 5 stars.

It's a generally good camera.. which I won't repeat what other ppl say..
some perhaps unusual complaints

1. zoom during video capture is digital.. and it gets pixelated very quickly. You can do optical zoom before starting the recording, but once the recording started, the optical zoom is fixed.. i.e. you can't UNzoom the optical zoom. So the video capture still take some prior mental planning if you use the zoom a lot..
2. I have a 8GB SD card.. I always have problem copying off video clips longer than 1GB off the card through the camera.. don't know why
3. it's hard to play with where exactly you want to focus.. e.g. if you manually focus on a spot then move the camera for composition.. the focus will change.. haven't figure how to do that yet.. whereas my old Sony cybershot works perfectly.. not much depth-of-focus either..

The Prosumer SLR Value 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Summary: I'm a very happy owner after 2 months and 3,000 exposures
Pros:
1. Quick, accurate and flexible focus with easy selection of focus points.
2. Very good exposures in difficult light.
3. Rapid and logical access to controls and displays.
4. Flash metering and control, especially with the external 580exII, are superb!
Cons:
1. Custom white balance set-up could be easier.
2. The manual is poor enough that I purchased and aftermarket book on the 40d.
My Rig:
1. 40d body dual battery pack.
2. 17-85 EFS, USM/IS lens
3. 70-200 f2.8L, USM lens
4. 2x Telextender
5. Manfrotto monopod.
6. Lowepro Fastpack 250 backpack w/laptop compartment.
7. 580exII speedlight w/Gary Fong "Whale Tail"
8. 430ex speedlight to use as slave to 580 for fill.
Uses:
1. Girl's fastpitch softball games. These range from bright sun to artificially lit night games.
2. Colorguard and drill team competition. These are often indoors or on field at night.
3. Product photography for high tech semiconductor equipment. This is usually on site vs. in a studio due to equipment size.

Discussion:
I purchased this camera to take over where my Konica-Minolta 5d and Minolta legacy glass left off in my tireless effort to chronicle my kid's lives. The KM5d was not a bad rig, but as the kids got older the action moved too fast for the KM to catch it. The main issues were the focus speed and the shutter speeds allowed by the legacy lenses. Sony Alpha made some of these issues better, but that system only has two fast focus motors - for the 70-200 and one other. It's just very limiting and about 25% more expensive than Canon or Nikon equivalents. So, I decided to change to one of the two big guys. After extensive testing, I settled on the Canon system and the 40d in particular because of the speed of operation (at least in my hands) and the price point for the items I wanted, which ended up being almost $1k less than the Nikon solution based on a D300. Also, the Canon system had lenses that overlapped range where I wanted them to, and this is reflected in the system I carry. Many other reviews split hairs on ISO 3200 performance, and this got me going for a little bit, but the fact is that if you are pushing that hard, the photos are going to be very grainy. Slightly less or more is not the issue, IMHO. Over quite a broad range of conditions, this camera is just great.

So, now I have the equipment performance headroom that my KM was nowhere near providing, and my photography, which did NOT stink previously, has taken a good step up. I get the action shots on a more consistent basis. The slides into second base are spectacular! If you are looking for a step up from the older Canons, or are switching to a system with some breadth like I was, this is a great choice!

Outstanding product, the camera features seem to be unlimited, buy it after you do your product research since the market is flooded with cameras. It is VERY SMALL, this is not an issue for me, it fits in a pocket with room left over. The manual is clearly written, step by step (no steps left out- very good in all examples)the only issues and it's minor, is the small print of the manual.
I love mine, bought the 8gig upgrade memory card, well worth it, allows you to take lots of pictures at the 8meg photo setting, before having to download the pictures. The camera case I bought was not that good, the magnet case lock does not work very well, but a rubber band around the case solved the issue. I do a lot of backpacking and bending over causing the flap to come undone.

Impressed 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Now first things first. I am upgrading from a Sony p-72 3.2 mega pixel camera that I got back in 2003. So there are many cameras out there that would be a big step up.
I was only interested in a point and shoot and it had to be compact for traveling purposes. I would love a DSLR but they are pricey, bulky and did not fit my daily needs.

I started reading around for a month or so to see what was out there and read all the pros and cons. I have read so much that I finally grew sick of it. In its basic form, all point and shoot cameras have +'s and -'s. It all depends on features that are most important to you and how you will be using the camera.

After many reviews, forums, and websites I decided to go with the Canon 790IS. I was very apprehensive on the quality of picture this camera would provide due to manufacturers pushing the limitations of the sensor. The sweet spot for most point and shoots are 6-8MP.

So what drew me to this camera?
I was really impressed with the size, screen size, material that the camera was made out of (not cheap plastic), and most of the automated settings which make the camera very easy/quick .

I didn't want to have to mess with manual settings on a point and shoot. My impression of a point and shoot is it is ready to go when I need it. Maybe 5-10 seconds to change the macro but that is it. If I have to spend much more than that, great picture opportunities would be lost.

So I took the plunge and bought it here off of Amazon in addition to a 8 gig Sandisk ultra II for pictures and a spare battery.

I am not going to go into what the camera comes with as other people have done a great job with that already.

After three days of waiting, I got the camera.

I was quickly impressed on the startup speed of the camera and quality of the pictures. I took 150 in the first day. The battery is still going strong.

I also tried the higher ISO settings and they will only be good on a tripod. The 3200 iso macro that is in the camera is really good. It downgrades the 10 MP to 2ish but makes a really dark shot seem to be early evening. I used it many times and it worked great. Way better than what I am use to. You can do it manually but need to keep the camera stable or you will get a blur.

I have had the camera for almost a month and I am very pleased with it.
You can't go wrong with the Amazon price. It is 100$ lower than retail.
The camera is very well built and does an excellent job as a point and shoot. Even quick when using the flash. So again, you need to look at what you will use the camera for and what features are important to you. This one satisfied all of my requirements and I am very happy with my purchase.

As a side note:
I recommend getting a screen protector for the large screen. It will be easily scratched if you put in your pocket with change or other objects.
Just keep in mind you get what you pay for in screen protectors. Boxwave ones are highly rated and last forever. IT would suck to get a scratch across that beautiful 3inch screen.

Prepare to be transfixed by the view from the camera's 3.0-inch PureColor LCD II screen.
