Poor Pictures 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have gone through a few digital cameras. My first was a Kodak. It took great pictures but was too big to just stick in my pocket. My next purchase was an Olympus. It was very compact with great feautres but took TERRIBLE pictures.
Then I purchased the Sony DSCW90B. I like the size, but that is about it. 90% of the pictures I take do not come out well at all. Also, the lag time between pictures seems to be forever. It is way too slow to capture small children playing and wildlife. Since I purchased it a few months ago, I am stuck.

Editorial Review:

The DSC-W90/B combines the power of 8.1 Megapixel resolution and the precision of a Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens with powerful, advanced features. Face Detection makes skin tones appear more natural, D-range optimization provides greater detail in highlights and shadows and in-camera retouching and red-eye reduction quickly improves shots you've already taken. And the Double Anti-Blur Solution lets you snap beautiful, clear photos in low light without flash to preserve the mood. For simple sharing with family and friends, HD (high definition) output makes photos look spectacular on compatible HDTV screens.

blurry photos 2 out of 5 stars.

This camera has a serious design flaw. You need to really push down on the button to shoot a picture. Because of this, the camera tends to move when you press the button, and the result is a blurry picture. I would definitely not recommend this camera.

Good 3 out of 5 stars.

Simple to use but there is no memory stick and the internal memory only allows for 15 pictures.

Sony Cybershot S650 7.2MP Digital Camera Does Not Work 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this camera for a friend. The camera turns on and shuts off right away. He's tried several sets of batteries to no avail.
I will be calling Sony on his behalf given that he's overseas and can't do it.

I am dissapointed that it does not work which may point to the Quality Assurance efforts at Sony.

I am hopeful it can be resolved easily and a replacement is not required.

Thanks.
Angelo

The DSC-S650 camera features 7.2-megapixel imager and shines in classic silver. It also houses a two-inch LCD screen wrapped in a metal body. This model features 3x optical zoom capability, blur-reduction technology (ISO), and substantial internal memory for shooting without a media card. Nice outdoor, daylight pictures. Otherwise, hit or miss 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this camera from a large retail chain about 3 years ago (yes, the model is that old). First thing I must say: The price here is ridiculous for this camera. Its not worth $388, or whatever they have it listed for. That said, onto the pros and cons:

PROS
- Takes EXCELLENT pictures in any type of daylight (even mostly cloudy skies), including beautiful sunrise and sunset pictures (so long as its not too far along). Great clarity, excellent color, and wonderful balance. Can't beat this camera there.
- The movie setting is quite good. Not HD, but it doesn't have a limit on the video length (like many point-and-shoots do). If you have the memory, you can take as long a video as you want.
On that same note, the mic on this is actually quite good! Excellent for recording convos or even concerts (as long as you aren't standing right in front of the speakers).
- The camera does have a lot of settings, and the ability to create a 'custom' setting too by moving around ISO, flash, zoom, balance, and other settings.
- Macro mode is nice for up close shots
- The battery lasts FOREVER! On one charge, I've gotten 250 pics and a couple 2 minute videos while using the preview screen quite generously (still had some life too). Use a couple of the power save options, and I have no doubts you could easily hit 350-400 pictures on one charge.
- Turn it on, and a second later you can take a picture. Another second, and you can take another picture. Very quick turnaround.
- ISO setting isn't terrible (not great either) at taking low light pics w/o flash. Pics tend to be grainy though.
- Great, clear lens and a decent optical zoom (the digital zoom is fine, but I find using it tends to make it difficult to get a non-blurry shot).

CONS
- The root of many of this camera's problems: NO image stabilization feature! Be prepared to delete or re-take half of your pictures because of this, unless you have nerve and stability of an army sniper. W/o the flash in anything but direct sunlight, you are in trouble. Even with the flash, you need to hold the camera as still as possible. This wouldn't be as a big an issue, but...
- The 2.5 inch LCD is decent sized, but its difficult to see how good the picture actually is UNTIL you see it on your computer. So, you may take 10 pictures and think you have 10 winners, but turns out only 2 or 3 are keepers.
- The click/rotating wheel that has chooses one of the 10 modes of the camera is very easily turned by accident. Thus, you get the perfect shot, click the shutter...and find out that the camera was actually on video mode. Shot missed. Disappointment abounds.
- These 10 functions are also...shall we say...questionable as to there actual operation. Let me say this: Out of the 10 modes, I use just 3 of them (Auto, Landscape, and Video) 98% of the time. The others are pretty specific to certain scenarios, and I question if a couple of them actually do anything special (one setting is for beach shots, and it reportedly 'accentuates' the blue color. Compared to an auto beach shot, I can see no difference between the two).
- The flash has a 'groove zone', which I have found is about 4 to 6 feet away. Anywhere outside of that zone, and the flash does not perform as well. Closer and people look like they are bio-luminescent. Further away, and things start getting shadowy. There's also no options to change the flash intensity (fill, close, etc). So, you get the same flash each time. Red Eye is tough to avoid too. The flash indicator/RE light helps SOMETIMES (70% of the time), but the slow-synchro flash option is only effective maybe 15% of the time.
- Taking shots at night is the worst. Blurry without the flash, and the flash is usually too weak to make the shot look good regardless. The 'twilight modes' are also useless, as the lack of image stabilization comes back into play.
- Small quips: In video mode, you can't zoom at all while recording. You can only stop, zoom, and restart. Settings and features are not intuitive, but a quick read of the manual usually suffices. Cyber-shot software is awful. It runs EXTREMELY slow, doesn't offer many features compared to EasyShare, and its red eye fix (arguably the most used aspect of basic editing software) makes eyes look gray, dead, and unnatural.

This camera isn't bad, and has some nice features. However, image stabilization, IMO, is the reason why this camera isn't recommended.

Editorial Review:

Sony brought easy digital photography to the masses when it introduced the Mavica--a digital camera that stored digital pictures on standard floppy discs. This updated version boasts a 2-megapixel sensor and a Memory Stick slot, plus the charm and simplicity that made the original a hit.

Optics and Resolution
The FD200's 2-megapixel sensor captures enough detail for sharp prints at sizes up to 8 by 10 inches. For the typical family photographer, 2 megapixels is a great balance between price and performance. If you want a camera with even more resolution, forget about using low-capacity floppy discs and step up to a CD-recording model instead--try Sony's MVC-CD300 or MVC-CD400.

The autofocus lens features both a 3x optical zoom and a 2x digital zoom. Remember, however, that digital zoom tends to reduce the sharpness and detail of your image, so it's a good idea to use it sparingly.

To save space, there's no traditional optical viewfinder to look through. Instead, to compose your images or review shots you've already taken, the FD200 uses a big 2.5-inch color display. The advantage to using the LCD to frame your shots is that the screen lets you see exactly the picture you'll capture. The disadvantage is that you can't turn off the screen and just use the optical viewfinder to extend battery life. Fortunately, the included rechargeable battery holds a relatively good charge.

More Features
The FD200 is clearly designed for point-and-shoot simplicity, but there are several options for more adventurous photographers, including manual focus with macro, adjustable ISO and white-balance settings, exposure compensation, and the ability to shoot black-and-white, sepia, solarized, and negative images.

Power
The FD200 uses Sony's excellent InfoLithium battery system, which not only holds a respectable charge, but also displays on screen how many minutes of power remain. Both the battery and the charger are included. Because the battery is unique to specific Sony models and can be nearly impossible to find when on the road, we strongly recommend getting a spare if you're planning to take the camera on extended outings.

Movie Mode
In movie mode, the camera captures silent video clips. The limited duration and resolution of your movies guarantees that this feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on standard floppy discs, which makes transferring pictures to your computer a snap. Take the picture, wait for the disc to stop whirring, then eject it from your camera and pop it into your computer's floppy drive. For safekeeping, it's best to transfer images to your hard drive and periodically archive your photos using a CD-R drive.

Though they're available everywhere and have become dirt-cheap, floppies aren't without their problems. First, their 1.4 MB capacity is dismal by today's standards. A 2-megapixel photo actually contains 6 MB of information, which means a disc can't hold even a single uncompressed photo. Using standard JPEG compression, only four photos fit on each disc, so plan to bring a big stack of bulky floppies on each outing. To make matters more frustrating, some new computers (iMacs, for example) don't even come with floppy drives anymore.

To get around these problems, the FD200 also includes a slot for Memory Sticks, Sony's proprietary memory-card format. A 128 MB stick is approximately one-fifth the size of a floppy disc, yet it holds around 200 images at the camera's default settings or over 20 uncompressed TIFF images. To transfer images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera. Your computer should automatically recognize your camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive. If you own a Sony desktop or laptop, your computer may already have a built-in Memory Stick reader.

Most folks will probably buy the Mavica for the simplicity of its floppy drive, but switch to the Memory Stick slot when on extended outings.

Size Considering the internal floppy drive and nonretracting 3x zoom lens, the Mavica is reasonably compact at 5.6 by 4.1 by 3.1 inches, though it weighs in at a hefty 19 ounces.

Contents and Recommended Accessories The package includes the camera, lithium-ion rechargeable battery, NPF-330 AC adapter-battery charger, video and USB cables, shoulder strap, and lens cap.

The camera does not come with any storage media, so you'll need either a floppy disc or a Memory Stick to start shooting. Otherwise, everything you need to get started is included in the box. To make the most of your camera, we recommend: a carrying case, a high-capacity Memory Stick or stack of floppy discs, and, for extended outings, a spare battery. Compatible accessories for this camera are listed near the top of this page. --Shane Burnett

Pros:

  • 2-megapixel resolution is perfect for most users
  • Floppy disc storage for ultimate simplicity
  • Lithium-ion battery holds a good charge

Cons:

  • Movie mode lacks sound
  • Floppies are big, bulky, and low capacity, though the Memory stick slot solves this problem.

Great Camera 5 out of 5 stars.

We bought this as an upgrade to our 5 year old camera. It is a nice handy size, full of features, and very quick from the off position to ready to take photos. We took the camera to Disney and was please with it's size and photo quiality. I would, however, recommend using the camera several times before using it for permanant photos.

Editorial Review:

Recreate the moment with the incredibly lifelike pictures you'll take with the silver DSC-W80/W 7.2 Megapixel Cyber-shot digital camera. Your friends will be impressed with its combination of high fashion and advanced performance. With features like Face Detection to bring out the most natural tones in faces and HD output for presentation, sharing pictures becomes an experience to remember. The convenient in-camera retouching and red-eye reduction expands your creativity while the double anti-blur solution allows low-light shooting without flash. And the Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens lets you view the action very closely through the large 2.5" LCD screen.

Fantastic Camera! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This camera is truly fantastic; it's worth every single penny I paid (and more). First lets talk about aesthetics because, lets be honest with ourselves here, it DOES matter what the camera looks like on whether or not we buy it.

This camera is really beautiful and sleek; it's done in a light champagne color that's unique from other cameras on the market. Champagne is great because it adds flare without it looking too masculine or feminine. The camera is slick and shiny, which is always nice and the lens only extends with turned on, when off the lens is flush with the rest of the camera.

The camera itself is ridiculously simple to use. Then there's the huge display (touch screen). This thing is awesome; I've never had any problems at all with the touch screen, it's really simple to navigate and there are dozens of options to make sure that your pictures turn out exactly right. I'm a sculptor so understandably I wanted pictures that accurately represented my sculptures. I've always had a hard time getting those pictures, but with the numerous settings available on this camera I eventually found the perfect settings for them.

The camera takes amazing professional grade pictures with fantastic resolution, size and color. The pictures, at their highest setting, are pretty huge, but it's simple enough to reduce them in any art program if you decide you'd like them smaller or cropped. There is also an art program directly in the camera - you can draw on pictures with the stylus right on the touch screen.

I can't say that I even remember ever using the software - it does come with a really nice picture viewer, but since I already had one that I favored I rarely use the one it came with.

I've had this camera for over a year now and I've never had any trouble at all with it. As a matter of fact, I only just recently bought a spare battery to use when mine runs down during a photo shoot. Oh, and on the subject of batteries; this is a pretty good one. Personally, I would recommend getting a spare, but I would recommend that with any electronics that take batteries. You don't want to be in the middle of a shoot and have your batt die, or go to go get a great shot after not using the camera for a while only to realize the batt is dead or dieing. So definitely get a spare. Since this camera automatically shuts down after a couple minutes of no use, that really saves the battery; with my last camera, every time I plugged it into my computer to retrieve the pics if I left it on too long (while plugged into my comp) the battery would be dead when I came back - but I haven't had any problems like that with this one.

Overall, this is a great camera, I would suggest it to anyone looking for a high end camera; there are very few that can compete with it (unless you want to pay $4,000 for something 4x as big).

Oh, and one last thing - this camera also takes video. The video quality is pretty darn good. It's not professional grade video, but it's more than enough for home movies or school plays. For my professional stuff I use a high end Sony Camcorder (the Sony HDR-SR12), but when I'm in the backyard filming my dog or shooting footage of the kids playing in the pool, this one is more than sufficient.

Editorial Review:

Successor to the N1, the DSC-N2 enriches image quality further by incorporating a 1/1.7 inch CCD to produce a high resolution of 10.1 effective megapixels. With an improved sensitivity of up to 1000, you're guaranteed clear, blur-free images! Like the N1, the DSC-N2 employs easy-to-use touch screen operation, making managing your settings simple. Touch screen allows unique features such as the Flexible Spot AF function, which lets you focus on a subject by just touching it on your LCD monitor. The large 3-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus allows you to view your images in great detail.

Great camera! 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I've used Amazon to order various items before and was always satisfied with the result...quality at low prices.
I ordered a Sony Dsc G1 on Sunday June 24th and it arrived Thursday, June 28th.
I've taken about 50 photos under critical conditions, low light and using the automatic features of the camera.
I'm amazed at how well it performs. Big LCD screen, the camera is a nice size for my big hands, just a little bigger then the regular Cybershots. The resolution in the screen is excellent.
I was considering the DSC T-100 but it got such bad ratings that I went with this camera....sure glad I did!
When I figure out some of the more technical features I'll post a more detailed review.

Revolutionize the way you shoot and share photos with the 6.0 megapixel DSC-G1 Cyber-shot digital camera. Boasting a massive 2GB (a portion of the memory is used for data management purposes; approx. 1.86 GB will be available for image recording) of internal memory, you can store up to 7,500 images at VGA resolution or 600 full-resolution photos. Take remarkable pictures day or night with built-in 9-point auto focus and twilight mode which automatically adjusts the settings for beautifully clear photos. And you can review your photos on the massive 3.5" XtraFine LCD screen.
