Great Camera! 5 out of 5 stars.

Buy this camera! I have read reviews that said that this camera was too small. I am 6'2" with big hands and I think the size is perfect. I think some people are stuck in the 35mm film days and don't realize that a digital slr does not have to be like a film slr. This camera is fast, small, and light. It takes great pictures. My other digital slr is a monster compared to this. I will keep it for some things (sigma sd14) but for most of my photography the e-410 is a perfect fit. Plus it has a dust removal system which sadly the sigma does not have. For the price there is nothing else that even comes close. Unless you are a professional photographer I can't see why you would need more. Buy this camera! I got mine from Cameta for $339.00 with the 14-42 lens. The ad said refurb but mine was an untouched demo.

Editorial Review:

Life is in the details, and the EVOLT E-410 was built to let you capture all of them. The Live View LCD is an uncommonly cool feature for a digital SLR. And when you experience the ergonomic feel and lightweight portability of this camera, you'll want to take it everywhere. Whether the important details of your life are smiling faces or far-away places, you'll capture pristine, detailed memories, thanks to a proven Dust Reduction System and powerful 10-megapixel imager.

Good Deal 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I bought this camera with the two lenses from a different vendor. After researching DSLR's I found this buy to be a good one. Seeing this ad with all the components makes me wish I'd waited a bit longer. This is a good deal for a great entry level digital slr. The camera is easy to use and takes excellent pics. I'd suggest getting the DVD that explains all the features. It's worth the $20. I believe it's available through Olympus.
I own several SLR's from professional to amateur, Canon, Minolta, etc. I waited for prices to come down to get into DSLR's. Olympus gave me a good reason. Consider Canon's and Nikon's offerings at nearly twice the price. Actually, a friend bought a Canon that went for $1400. I couldn't find a difference of $800 between the cameras or pictures it took.
The extra battery, disc and bag are definitely worth it. This is a good buy.

As good as advertised 4 out of 5 stars.

Olympus Evolt E-510 Digital SLR Camera/ Two Lens Kit with 14-42 mm & 40-150 mm Lens 2 GB CF Memory Card, Spare BLM-01 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery, Slinger Camera System Bag

Reviewed well by Consumer Reports, in DVD tutorial, and general user comments as a full-featured, prosumer DSLR at a competitive price, all confirmed by my initial exploration on a field trip. The E-510 is a good bargain for a newbie photographer like myself and I would think it would satisfy the needs of a more experienced photohound looking for a better bang for their buck than they'd get from a Nikon or Canon model.

Your life is full of priceless, fleeting moments that you want to keep just the way you see and feel them. Preserve each moment with the E-520. With the E-520's Live View, you can shoot your subject while viewing it on the LCD monitor, so it's just like shooting with a compact camera. In addition to phase-difference detection AF, the E-520 incorporates a high speed Imager AF that offers easy 11-point multi-area autofocusing with Live View simply by half-pressing the shutter button. Face Detection AF automatically detects up to 8 faces at a time and adjusts focus appropriately. Accurate composition is assured by the monitor's 100% field of view. The E-520 is equipped with a 2.7" HyperCrystal II LCD monitor with high-definition 230,000-dot resolution, improved contrast ratio, and enhanced color reproduction capability. While shooting with Live View, framing-assist patterns or a histogram can be displayed on the LCD monitor to improve your picture composition and check exposure condition. The E-520 incorporates a Live MOS sensor with 10-Megapixels, Olympus' original TruePic III image processing engine delivers improved imaging, gradation expression and color reproduction capabilities as well as minimized noise at high ISO setting. Olympus' highly acclaimed dust reduction system employs a Supersonic Wave Filter in front of the image sensor, which vibrates at such high speed and with such great power that it removes even the most stubborn dust; dust that cannot be removed by just shaking the image sensor or by discharging the static electricity. I like it! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Have had this camera for about a month now, and really like it! Although i have a Canon with 10 megapixels, i wanted a reasonably priced camera i could carry in my purse that had image stabilization since my other one does not. It actually takes pictures as good as the Canon. The 5xzoom is great, and fixing any shadowed pics or redeye (which does not always occur anyway) is a snap in the camera. In low light, as many other point and shoots, there is some graininess, though. I submitted some pictures from it already, and the portrait shot did not even need redeye reduction. The pictures really look better on the computer and printed than on the website here. Have also had several enlarged to 8x10 and a couple cropped and enlarged to 5x7 with no loss of image quality. The only thing i would change is the cord for the charger which is kind of awkward. Would definitely recommend this camera for a friend!

DSLR after film and digital point & shoot. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is my first camera review and is based upon six weeks of heavy use of my new Olympus E-510, 10MP, DSLR with two very good kit lenses (14-42mm and 40-150mm). I bought the camera to upgrade my ability to capture indoor architectural details in historic buildings. My background includes the use of 35mm film SLRs and digital point & shoot cameras. I have been slow on getting a DSLR because I don't like big, heavy cameras in outsized bags. The E-510 is amazingly light but easy to get a good grip on. I've added a Lowepro 160 AW bag for the camera, two lenses, a spare Olympus Li-ion battery and a spare 4GB compactFlash card. There's still room for more and it is almost feather light over your shoulder.

I have taken several hundred practice images in my own home using the built-in flash and an external Olympus FL-36 electronic flash with tripod. As expected, the built-in flash is fine for quick photos of the family but more serious work demands an external flash unit. I've added a diffuser to my FL-36 and found it helpful. I've used automatic settings and tried the full range of manual settings. So far I've only used the lower resolution SQ JPEG settings. For minute detail I plan to use higher resolution HQ, SHQ and RAW settings in the future. These settings are all easy to find and quick to set using the camera's easy to read paper instruction manual and intuitive Menu viewable through the LCD window on the back of the camera.

Outdoors I've made very good use of both lenses and the image stabilization feature. When you can walk backwards in a busy zoo and can capture a two year old without blurring, you've got a great stabilization system on the camera! I've taken several hundred images of waterfalls in a dark forrest with brilliant, high-noon sun streaming through the trees and close range to distant landscape shots around a large manmade lake from a fast moving boat. All the results have been excellent. I have taken a number of these images, opened them up in Adobe Photoshop CS2 and been very pleased with the results.

I have tried the "live view" capability and it works fine but I find myself using the viewfinder 95% of the time. So, this feature is pretty cool but up to you on how you prefer to use it. Battery life is outstanding. In other words battery life has been a complete non-issue to me, inside, outside, with or without the flash.

Concerning low-light focus problems mentioned in some other reviews. I have experienced the problem, but with all the settings this camera has, you can easily work around the issue. But it is important to know this limitation and experiment with it before you encounter it in a photo shoot situation.

If you'd like some outstanding recommendations on how to customize and save your E-510 camera settings check out this website. http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e510-sett.html

One thing I have not tried yet is the panoramic shooting mode. To use this mode you must have a Panoramic xD card (I bought two CompactFlash cards, 2GB & 4GB when I bought the camera). The xD card will be my next purchase. Unless you want to spend the money, you might buy the 4GB CompactFlash card and a 1GB or 2GB xD card for starters. No, the camera does not come with a memory card upon initial purchase unless you buy a complete kit.

So, read the reviews, to include the 4 and 3 star reviews. If you make your decision to buy a E-510 and save a few bucks or buy the newest E-520 you won't be disappointed.
