I just bought this camera today, right out of the box I was able to take great photo's. Thankfully, I had a 2gig card from my older camera, so I did not have to buy a new one as the one they give you holds next to nothing in photo's. Still great to have a card though so not picking on it. I have been wanting a small compact camera that takes great photo's. I think I found exactly like I wanted. I got mine at Target for 30 dollars more then what Amazon sells for. Still, not a bad deal. I paid less then my first camera, and still paid less then my last fugi camera that died in the first year.

The LCD screens on most cameras are too small for me to see well, but this camera has a huge screen, which allows for fast, one-handed operation, even from horseback. That was a significant factor in my purchase decision and I've not been disappointed.
The camera takes very close shots with great clarity which is unusual for a point and shoot. In a low light indoor situation, the limited flash distance is an advantage if you're trying to photograph a particular item and don't want to show the rest of your room. That limited flash isn't good if you're trying to capture a group at a long table in a dim restaurant, however--you won't see the people toward the back very well.
I wish the camera were perfect because with its small, sleek size, I can easily carry it everywhere with me and as a result have been able to capture some super shots that presented themselves unexpectedly. No more wishing I had a good camera at hand--because I do. I've not yet found a camera that is perfect for everything, and for what this camera does well, together with its portability and ease of use, I've been very pleased.
With only a 3.8x zoom, I know I'm not going to get the distant mountain wildlife shot, but with the clarity and stunning color I get in decent light, the 8mp quality allows me to zoom in and enlarge a portion of a picture pretty well when I'm photo editing on the computer later. I've had the camera for about a year and have had no problems with it. It's gotten a lot of use and will continue to. Battery life is great.

Touchscreen A Pain 2 out of 5 stars.

I previously had a Canon PowerShot (SD450), and I thought it was time to upgrade. However, I returned it after playing around with it and having no tolerance for the touchscreen interface.
Cons:
-- Touchscreen was difficult to use and annoying. It would not always register when I tried selecting something, so I would often have to touch the screen more than once. It requires going through so many clicks and menus to do simple tasks, which made my older Canon camera with normal buttons seem much faster in comparison. I also did not want to carry around the pen for the touchscreen, and using my fingers would leave fingerprints and be even less effective.
-- The lens does not seem properly protected from my fingers when holding the camera so that it is easy to put fingerprints on the lens, which I would assume could decrease the quality of photos.
-- The 3 inch LCD screen includes wasted space since it is widescreen and it doesn't make sense for everyone to shoot in widescreen. Therefore, the point of the touchscreen to free up more space for the LCD display is meaningless for most, as there are black bars on each side of the photo.
-- Need to purchase separate cable to view HD quality photos on tv.
-- Tiny zoom lever.
Pros:
-- Easy to understand manual
-- Small and thin. A true ultracompact.
-- Auto scene selection mode seems like a useful feature.
The cons listed above, combined with further research I found giving other compact cameras better marks, made me return this. I just bought a Panasonic FX150 after a lot of research, and I hope this one is better!

Small camera, big features 4 out of 5 stars.

I was looking for a small camera with a lot of features.
What I like:
12 MP, 3 systems of shake reduction, High Dynamic Range, manual focus in almost all modes (you can record a movie in macro, super macro, manual focus, excellent!), ISO range (you can decide a maximun auto ISO), document photos are very clear (I like negative mode to take pictures of my 35mm negatives films), fast focus mode, big movies with a small size.
What I don't like:
Big problem - you can disable Face Priority in Auto mode, this causes the camera found "ghost faces" in what are you focus (my camera found 5 faces when I was taking a picture to a TV remote control). This also causes the camera fires red eye reduction flash (when is not necessary) and the battery runs low too fast. You can not change the zoom in movie mode(while recording). You can record more than 2 hours in HQ but the battery only give 1 hour of life.
I ask people from Pentax to give the posibility to disable Face Pripority in auto mode in the next firmware (please, please!!!).
